In the UK, and probably most other parts of Europe, the Robin (Erithacus rubecula) is the most featured creature on Christmas cards and is always associated with that festival. I was on the local nature reserve on a very cold day and the hoar frost had not melted when I saw this little bird fluffed up like a ball to stay warm. It looked so vulnerable yet it was not at all timid, I think it was wondering if I had brought food; I took a series of photographs and then fed him with the seed I always carry in winter for the small birds.
