Pileated
Woodpecker
(Dryocopus
pileatus)
In other pictures I
have said how much I have enjoyed visiting the Nisqually Refuge in
Washington State, USA. As I was leaving on my last visit and walking by
the fallen and decaying trees by the river there was a sudden flash of
red movement and this bird landed on the tree trunk.
I managed one shot
in very poor light before the woodpecker flew off but this is a lovely
reminder of the many very happy hours I spent walking around Nisqually.
