On the puszta, or Great Hungarian Plain there are, in places, very few trees and because the habitat is so good there is fierce competition for nesting sites in the few trees.
In an area near Tiszafured I saw signs of Long-eared Owls nesting in 4 out of 5 of the trees and this bird, resentful of my attention, was easily photographed.
