Red-footed
Falcon
(Falco
vespertinus)
Surely one of the
most beautiful of the European falcons, the Red-footed Falcon is one of
my favourites.
This female was
photographed in Hungary where I was helping with the Great Bustard (Otis
tarda) conservation project in 1994.
The birds like to
settle in old Rooks' nests and usually arrive from migration early
enough to stake a claim on the nest of choice. I did, however, see some
fairly serious disagreements between falcons and Rooks.
