(Ardea herodias)
One of my favourite places in the US is the Nisqually reserve near Olympia, WA. Late in 1997 I was visiting Seattle and in a day free of business I drove down to Nisqually.
In the dampness, with water dripping from every twig, was this Great Blue Heron. Despite the gloom, and flatness of the light I was able to get this shot as the bird was happy to stand still for a minute or so. I think the exposure was about 1/15 second on the 840mm lens!
