Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius)
On a birdwatching
holiday on the Greek island of Lesbos (or Lesvos) I found this nest hole
in a pollarded tree beside a fairly busy road.
The hole was only about five feet above the
ground so I was able to set up a tripod and use a remote cable release
for the shutter.
This was noticed by the locals and one lady
brought out a chair for me to sit on in the shade of her house!
The bird was unconcerned and, with its
mate, continued to feed its young while I took a series of pictures. |
