Willow
Warbler
(Phylloscopus
trochilus)
A friend called to
say that he had a warbler's nest in the garden and I found that the
birds made a habit of landing on this foxglove stem on their way to and
from that nest.
Further watching revealed something very
unusual. The young warblers, which were only two or three days old, also
had a foster parent. A Robin (Erithacus rubecula) was trying to
feed the nestlings without success - it was bringing to the nest worms
rather than insects! |
