Black
Woodpecker
(Dryocopus
martius)
Heading south to the
Camargue, in the south of France, we stopped for a few days in the
Sologne, a large area of wet woodland south of Orleans.
Beside a nearby canal lined with Plane
trees we found that most trees had very large nest holes and about every
third hole was occupied by an example of this magnificent woodpecker.
They were so easy to find we were spoiled
for choice! |
