In Lomellina, in the commune of Zeme, there is a very interesting area where LIPU gives guided visits. It is the Heronry Refuge of Sant' Alessandro.Birds
Eighty hectares of woodland and open pools are home to thousands of breeding pairs of six species of herons, including the rare Cattle Egret. The refuge is provided with several hides and an observation tower.Visits
Visits are allowed from March to June and all visitors to the heronry are accompanied by a LIPU guide. Groups and school parties can visit every day by contacting the LIPU Branch in Pavia, Giancarlo Rognoni Tel. 0382 597859. Birdwatchers, photographers and families can visit on the first Sunday in March, April, May and June, from 9 am to 5 pm.
