Habitat
A wetland area which developed following the
construction of a channel to connect the River Tartaro and the Molinella
Canal. Due to large scale reclamation work the Ostiglia marsh has been
transformed into a unique area of its type, a kind of "hanging"
marsh, left raised above the general level of the surrounding land.

Birds
At first sight this marshland reserve seems to be
mainly covered in reeds and sedge, surrounded by small copses of willow
and alder. Closer inspection reveals examples of some marshland plant
species which are rare and localised in Italy. There are also many
interesting animals: birds include Purple Herons and Marsh Harriers, as
well as many smaller species such as Bearded Tits, Sedge Warblers and
Reed Buntings, all of which breed in substantial numbers. This wetland
habitat is suitable for other aquatic species such as herons, rails and
raptors, as well as reptiles and amphibians, a testimony to the
importance of Ostiglio marsh.
